Hungryroot review: just okay

I’ve tried Hungryroot’s online grocery service a couple of times now. Each time I expect it to be a game changer, and each time it’s…just okay. Here’s what I’ve liked and disliked about it:

The great

  • Remembers my food preferences and suggests recipes that match!
  • Gives me access to healthy products I wouldn’t otherwise find locally.
  • Most recipes take 15-20 minutes to cook, and are fairly easy and flexible.
  • I don’t have to think about what’s for dinner.

The not-so-great

  • The way things are packed. Reddit is full of complaints about this, and it’s happened to me too. Getting a box of food delivered should be relaxing, but instead it adds the stress of: what’s broken and oozing all over everything this time?
  • While convenient, the recipes and ingredients are just eh. Nothing has wowed me so far.
  • Some of the recipes are missing carbs.

  • Browsing Hungryroot can sometimes feel like an AI is suggesting random food combinations to humans.

So, the search for the best way to grocery shop and meal prep continues. I just want simplified but delicious choices, allergy sensitivity, convenience, recipe suggestions, and leakproof packaging. Is that so much to ask?
