I recently traveled to the Boston, MA area and Providence, RI to enjoy the autumn foliage, visit some bookstores and museums, spend time with family, and of course, try new food. Here are my favorite food finds from the trip:
Tea-Do (Boston)

Onigiri and bubble tea are two of my favorite things, so it was fun to find a place that serves both. The bubble tea menu is extensive and you can get pretty much any combination that you can dream up.
The Friendly Toast (Boston)
This is a New England brunch chain with some gluten-free options. I went to their Boston Back Bay location, which was filled with tourists at 11am on a weekday, but still somehow managed to have better vibes than most of the other crowded brunch cafes in the area. I got one of their fall specials: pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon butter. They were delicious and gone before I could take a photo.
Flatbread Company (Providence)

This is another New England chain (though it looks like they also have a Hawaii location??) with both gluten-free and gluten flatbreads made with local ingredients. Pictured: the Gluten Free Mopsy’s Chicken Pie with pineapple.
The Malted Barley (Providence)

It’s hard to go wrong with pretzel sandwiches, and almost the entire Malted Barley pretzel menu is available gluten-free. Pictured: the gluten-free Thanksgiving sandwich (with gluten-free stuffing inside!). Their other specialty is beer, including root beer on tap.
Dave’s Coffee (Providence)

This local spot had both gluten-free egg sandwiches and pastries. This is their chocolate banana bread, with a caramelized banana slice on top, and an almost gingerbread-like texture and taste. It was perfect with some hot chai-der on a cold day.
Bonus: Eating the dinosaur

I found a copy of Eating the Dinosaur by Chuck Klosterman in a used bookstore in Boston and thought the cover art was pretty funny.
