The Lisbon eats I’m still dreaming about

Tuna croquettes and burnt onion bread

I got to visit Lisbon, Portugal recently and ate a lot of terrific food there. Top of the list: everything at Gunpowder, an Indian fusion tapas restaurant that my colleagues introduced me to. I liked it so much that I went back a second time. The tuna fish croquettes, bread with burnt onion butter, and aloo chaat (both sweet and spicy) were my favorite starters.

The tandoori chicken and sea bream were also delicious. My only regret is that I never had room for dessert.

At Baía do Peixe – Praça do Comércio, a seafood restaurant, I had an interesting salad of smoked salmon and feta cheese that made the perfect light meal. I’ll have to try that combination at home.

GURKHA MOMO had great dumplings, but I was honestly most excited about their banana lassi. I’m allergic to mangoes so I’m always looking for other lassi flavors. It was smooth and refreshing.

Honorable mention to the chicken katsu at Katsu Asian Bistro, which was crispy, just the right level of spicy, and so good with pineapple:

And the Honest Greens chain, which had a diverse array of healthy options and desserts (chocolate chip cookie pictured below). It reminded me a bit of True Food Kitchen, except with more of a café vibe.

My other favorite dessert was of course the famous pastel de nata, which was best eaten warm and never stuck around long enough for a photo.
